EMMA General Introduction

This video introduces a pneumatic arm, known as EMMA(tm), developed for use sanding aircraft prior to their getting painted. Instead of a guy having to hold a sander, often over his head or in some other uncomfortable position, EMMA holds the sander (or 2), and the technician just moves the joystick left and right. The worker gets to go home, hug his children without shoulder pain, and play golf on the weekends, and management is happy that sanding now happens four times faster (or more). Workers get to keep their jobs because they don't get injured and their improved productivity means there's no pressure to outsource the work overseas. Management gets to eliminate sanding as a schedule bottleneck, and they get a better paint job (EMMA uses a higher grade sandpaper) so the customer's happy too. There's also a green benefit - EMMA outfitted with vacuum system sanders allow paint hangars to forgo the use of volatile chemical paint strippers, and to capture the chromate-laden paint dust instead of exposing workers to it. While discussing the wide range of EMMA sanding and polishing equipment, this video provides footage of two EMMA systems - a TableTop System for working on parts, and a Belly System, which accesses surfaces from 28" to 65" - especially designed for under wings and when working on business or private jets.
